Interesting Project.
I suggest you search back in our message archives for the thread from
the self proclaimed, "Papercreting Grannies" from West Virginia. They
are undertaking almost the same project. Their website has a lot of
pictures and descriptions about what they're doing. Haven't heard from
them for a while. It would be nice to get an update from them.
Some time ago chadnn mentioned something about building a papercrete
floor for a studio somewhere in NE Ark.
The potential difficulty with using a mower engine for a mixer is
starting the engine when something is in the mixer tank. At first it
might seem obvious to just start the engine before ingredients are
added to the tank. This doesn't account for the occasional engine
stall. A half mixed batch of papercrete can be a real pain. If the
engine is still in the mower, I suggest pulling the clutch out of the
mower with the engine so you can use that to engage/disengage the mixer
blade at your whim.
20hp will likely be a little underpowered if you're planning on mixing
large batches of thick papercrete. You can compensate by either
loosening the mix by adding extra water or by mixing smaller batches.
Expect long mix times. 20hp would likely work pretty well for a
barrell mixer.
With the quantity of papercrete you'll be mixing, it is worth it to
invest in a mixer that works well. Good tools make all the
difference. Especially the tools that will get used a lot.
