My first tow mixer, which is still alive after half a thousand loads, was built on a Ford Ranger rear end from a junkyard. Since then I have used several different differentials from unknown vehicles to make other mixers, and I haven't heard of any of them dying. So, AFAIK it doesn't matter much. The only thing is to make sure the blade is spinning counterclockwise (from top view) to reduce wear on the cone gear. Topping off the heavyweight oil once in a while is nice, too. Differentials are not designed to run in that position so the oil bath doesn't work as originally planned.

__._,_.___I am in the planning stages of building my first mixer. I hope to start building it very soon. My question, is there a make/model of axle/differential that works best. Chances of getting a freeby are better if it makes no difference. Thanks.
