Re: [papercreters] Floor

The step up into my dome is papercrete, about 8"thick and 3'x4', between a couple of papercrete half walls. At some point I will put a concrete cap on it, and lay some Mexican tiles that somebody thought were trash. Meanwhile it is unsealed.

It has been in place a couple of monsoon seasons now and doesn't show much wear. Right after a heavy rain (yes we do get rain, sometimes the whole annual 8-9" from one or two storms) it gets a little spongy and then dries in a few hours. The mix was the usual sack of portland into a no-tow mixer. If I lived in an area with more rain and humidity I would definitely add more portland cement and borax, and find a way to seal it.

The floor of the dome I'm in right now is papercrete, 10" thick, and capped with 2" of concrete containing a hydronic heating/cooling tube. That pc has been in contact with the sandy earth for several years now and shows no wear, but then it's completely hidden by the concrete cap and the surrounding 12" papercrete wall.
