As you can see in the above photo the PC stone has shrunk away from the PC mold
Here is the results of PC coming right out of a PC mold with no release agent, just plain ole shrinkage. You can see where the mold has been repaired in the gray area, I broke it tring to remove the original stone I made a copy of because the PC mold shrunk to the stone making it impossible to remove without breaking the PC mold.
If the surface is smooth or semi-smooth and has no undercuts a release agent would not be required, because the PC shrinks away from the form, I discovered you don't want to put an item into papercrete hoping to easily remove it once the PC has dried, the exact opposite happens, the PC shrinks around the object making it impossible to remove without breaking the PC. But if you are going to remove the PC from a mold that it can shrink away from, it will come out very easy.
