[papercreters] Re: Colorado Papercrete Home/Office Resident?

Perhaps the most prominent poster to this list from Colorado is Chris
Portell, lefamaster. At the moment Chris is running around the country
on a road trip for business and hasn't been posting much the last few
weeks.

If you want to make the trek to Crestone, I suggest trying to contact
Kelly Hart. Kelly is not currently a member of Papercreters, but he's
a prominent alternative building advocate. He's aware of Papercreters
and has graciously posted a link to us on his website. He has covered
his earthbag home with a papercrete stucco. He has his own website,

http://www.greenhomebuilding.com (this site is listed in our links
section). It is probably best to contact him via that web site. I
would encourage you to ask Kelly about visiting other structures in the
Crestone area. I'm guessing that he knows many residents of other
papercrete structures in Crestone personally.

Cortez, CO is the home of Virginia Nabity and Laurin Desseaux. I have
both of their addresses and phone numbers. If you want them, please
contact me off list. While I gained their information via public
online records, I want to be courteous and not publicly advertise their
information without their approval. I've heard that there may be other
structures in the Cortez area, but I haven't found any details yet.

There is also papercrete activity in northern New Mexico that might be
of interest. Judith Williams, slinkygidget, is a Papercreters member
that has posted frequently. Her home is currently under construction
and would give you the opportunity to see the guts of what is
involved. If you see her, please take her to dinner and toast what
she's done and her willingness to share on behalf of all of us. :)
(Smile slinkster, we're all rootin' for ya.) Lex Terry, Bloomfield,
and Mike & Barb Thomas, Navajo Dam, are also in northern New Mexico.

If anyone visits these areas, please take lots of pictures and ask lots
of questions. Take notes. Find out what mixes were used, how they are
protected from water and the weather, what kinds of reinforcements were
used. I'd like to start documenting as much as we can about the
papercrete pioneers. Collecting data over time about the endurance,
performance, and any problems these structures might have will be
invaluable to all of us. I'm tempted to create a short survey to ask
these pioneers, but maybe that's a little too forward. Please be
certain that anyone you visit is aware of Papercreters and personally
request that they join our group and share their experiences with us.

Without a doubt there are many structures and projects I'm not aware
of.

PLEASE, if anyone knows of papercrete buildings or projects anywhere in
the world, let me know. I've previously posted a map in the
Papercreters photo section. Look in the "diagrams" album. The ones I
have enough information about to plot on a map are the only ones shown
on the map. If you are not sure whether I have something listed,
please tell me anyway. If you are reluctant to post publicly someone's
address or other personal information, please email me off list.

Have Fun,
Hope this Helps,

slurryguy
