It has come to my attention that many of our newest members are
frustrated by how much email they are receiving from Papercreters.
This is a simple situation for each member to control. There are
settings you can select which act almost like a valve in a pipe
between the Yahoo servers and your inbox.
For those familiar with Yahoo systems, I recognize that there are
several different ways and menus to accomplish the same tasks. I'm
only listing one method. It may not be every experienced Yahooer's
favorite technique. Please understand that I'm targeting this message
to those who are struggling and are probably less familiar with
Yahoo's systems. I don't want to confuse anyone with several slightly
different sets of instructions to accomplish the same things.
To check your membership, go to the Papercreters main Yahoo home
page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/papercreters/
a) Close to the top of that page just right of the Yahoo logo is a
blue link, "Sign In". click it. Enter your YahooID and password.
Click the "Sign in" button. This will return you to the main
Papercreters home page. Your YahooID will be listed at the top of the
page just right of the Yahoo logo instead of the sign-in link you
previously clicked. If this is not what you see, start over and check
your membership from the beginning.
b) Just barely underneath the annoying banner advertisement look for
a blue "Edit Membership" link in rather small type. If you do not
see that blue link, and you are confident you have signed in
properly, Yahoo does not recognize you as a member of the group.
Check if you see a blue "Join This Group" button on the page. If
your are signed in to yahoo and see the "Join This Group" button you
can be certain Yahoo doesn't see you as a group member. Now would be
a great time to join. Click that button and follow the
instructions. If you are confident that you are logged in properly
and do not see the blue "Join this Group" button, look harder just
barely under the main banner ad for the blue "Edit Membership" link.
It's there somewhere. Click the blue "Edit Membership" link, and
you'll see a Papercreters "Edit Membership" page.
c) Look your information over closely. Is everything appropriate?
IS YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS CORRECT? IS IT SPELLED CORRECTLY? Pay
particular attention to "Step 2. Message Delivery". There are 4
options available:
1. Individual Emails
Selecting this option will cause the Yahoo system to send you an
email every time one of our members posts a message to Papercreters.
The system defaults to this option, so this is probably what was
selected as you joined the first time.
2. Message Digest
Selecting this option will cause the Yahoo system to collect a group
of messages together and send one email containing all the messages
for that day. Some days if there are a lot of messages being posted,
you might receive two digests. Personally, this is the option I like
the best and use myself.
3. Special Notices
Selecting this option prevents you from receiving almost all email
from Papercreters. The only email you will receive are messages
moderators send out and flag as special. The only way to read most
of the information posted to papercreters will be to view it via the
message archives on the web page. In the 7 1/2 months papercreters
has existed there have been 4 special notices that I can remember.
4. Web Only
Selecting this option assures that you will receive no email from
Papercreters at all. The only way to read most of the information
posted to papercreters will be to view it via the message archives on
the web page.
d) At the bottom of the Edit Membership page is a Blue "Save Changes"
button. Be certain to click that button to save your changes.
I hope you find this information helpful.
Please enjoy the group.
