Unfortunately I don't have a reference for the mixer so I'll attempt to
describe it for you.

Dig a round pit in the ground.
In a hole in the centre of the pit place an upright sturdy pole with the
top turned down to a smaller diameter.
Place a second pole with a hole bored in the center over the center pole
to form a T and be able to rotate around the centre pole.
Insert four or more smaller upright poles through the cross member pole so
that they point down into the pit on a forward sloping angle with the
uprights on either side of centre spaced so that each will take a
different track when the centre pole is rotated.

By harnessing a horse, donkey, bullock or just using manpower on either
end of the cross member pole a large volume of mortar can be mixed at once
simply by pushing the ends of the cross member around.

I have the idea that a mixer such as this could be used to mix pc,
especialy if the ground is clay based to assist in retaining water.
