Re: [papercreters] Re: Mixer woes

I like the instructibles one, that's the type of rotor I was thinking of but a lot bigger. The other one looks like a garden ornament windmill : )

Since the wind seems to blow all the time here, about ten years ago I did sit down and start drawing a wind powered mixer. Then I got too busy using my tow mixer and never did anything with it. It might take a pretty big wind turbine to equal the power of a tow mixer, but I think it could be done. I was thinking more of a geared turbine that would spin a blade at higher rpm instead of a slow action like a mortar mixer. Maybe a savonius type rotor with pulleys and belts to raise the blade speed. You would definitely need a good brake system and a positive rotor lock for safety. spaceman On 6/10/2011 8:29 PM, Wayne wrote: Has anyone thought of using a medievil mortar mixer to make pc? Traditionaly they where turned buy hand or by a pack animal, but I would expect that you could use water or wind power without too much trouble. No roads needed then. Wayne
