I found this article/video clip today- it shows some folks who
tacked up some carpet, fuzzy fiber to the wall, and laid on an earth
plaster.
Now- not sure if the ply walls underneath will stay damp or get damp
and grow mold, or if the tacked on carpet is secure enough, in
enough places, to keep it from 'pooching' out or bowing, it is fabric,
and over time it will tend to pull away and 'bow'. I personally have
used sample carpet boards, and attached them to my shed ceiling, as a
test, and they bowed, with NO weight of plaster on them, also this is
OUTSIDE the cabin, so weather may affect it even more. I would dove
to see how it is doing thru a winter/spring, and summer season before
comiting to trying this my own shed even. but the carpet may
perform well, with no glue holding it on, or other adhesive method
between the rows of nails/screws)
if it was cheap/free, and they have the time to do it over if needed
then it is worth trying.. but the rain/wind side of the cabin will
take a beating thru winter, so that will fail first of any surface. I
hope for their sake it does well.

Link's one of the growing number of people who is tinkering with
natural building. His interest was peaked by his other, Hannah, who's
built a number of things and seems to have a pretty good handle on
earthen materials. When an opportunity to "winterize" a small cabin
came up, they did some research and decided to experiment with
fastening carpet scraps (backwards) on to the plywood walls and
slapping earthen plaster over it. It's an experiment as this is a
humid climate and they don't know anyone else who's tried it. As
you'll see in the video, they are using lime and borax to help combat
the moisture.

EARTH PLASTER ON LIGHT STRAW CLAY
I somehow found a www.dancingrabbit.org two video clip set on making
and applying earthen plaster to a light straw clay wall. good info.

anyone used carpet in this way inside or out, or know if carpet will perform?
If it were my project I would have done an earth or lime plaster on
the fuzzy side as I nailed it to the plywood, to get a stiffer,
mold-proof material surface.
