Really you don't notice it that much. <shrug> I just grab a book and
check what the minimums are, I am usually exceeding them anyway. Some
of the rules are there for safety reasons, some to stop shady
contractors from putting 1 outlet per room in a new house. There are
always advantages and disadvantages to regulation, unfortunately the
advantages seldom help the really savvy consumer / diy'er.
Fortunately, those with a lower tolerance for that type of thing can go
places where they don't exist or are much more relaxed. That does
pretty much leave out Florida though, lol.
I am glad you are able to live off grid, I have looked into it and it
would be either pretty expensive or mean alot of lifestyle changes I am
not willing / able to make to pull it off. I am looking at many ways to
lower my grid consumption, though, including a batch water heater and
general home sealing and energy efficiency.
