I once knew a carpenter who saved all the scrap lumber from evey job he
ever did and sistered the same way to build himself a house at almost
no cost to himself. That was before inspections, I'd like to see those
days again. If we want to live in a house of paper, that should be our
decision, I understand we can't build a house of paper for someone else
to live in. But what we accept for ourselves should be our business.
Same as living off grid, can't be done in most citys as they require you
to be connected to the sewer system and that requires you to have a
water connection, I think you can get away with no electricity as I
don't know of any codes that requires that YET! Until the new Uniform
Building Code came into effect here in this county you could dig a hole
in the ground and live in it if you wanted to, but no more. Those days
are pasted.
P.S. Sistering is acceptable if done properly.
