Yes I use sawdust and sand/clay exclusively, and have infilled my
studio walls with precast blocks, and wet plaster over the top.
papercrete is an IDEA-- use what you have, I have used much more than
5% mixed in paper, sawdust; also use seaweed, chopped dry shrubbery,
all can work in a mix.
I don't use much cement, but any sawdust, if cured 6-8 weeks in the
sun amd air will lose their "sugars" which is what causes any
problems. cement will not cure if you pour in a Coke, or drop in a
box of Milk Duds, it is sugar that stops the reaction.
but my redwood sawdust is fairly inert, bug and fire resistant,
already ready to go, and no mixer chopper needed. I used a wringer
washer from the 1950s to make tub fulls of mix that I cast into
blocks, or used wet as a plaster. all this info is on one of my
Resource Guide CDs #1660 on natural materials.
OK tadelakt is NOT a special mix of lime plaster it is a METHOD,
lots of polishing with a stone while applying black oil/olive oil
soaps to the wall... this makes it waterproof enough to have a shower
or bathtub. see real floors and showers, sinks and tubs in the book
I recently did the English lime translation for a German to English
book called Tadelakt. great images of how to do this method... see
the book being sold at WW Norton co.
