[papercreters] What about? Intro to Welding? Mixer Construction? at the Papercreter Gathering

No promises.  I'm asking questions, not announcing anything official.  I don't know if any of these ideas will really happen, but I hope we can pull it off.

An idea has been mentioned for a couple very interesting and educational activites at the Papercrete Group Gathering at Judith's Place in September.    (To read the full text about how to attend the gathering, read this message:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/papercreters/message/8005)

Welding

Do we have a member that would enjoy helping others learn the introductory basics on how to weld?

The more I learn about papercrete the more important certain tools, equipment, and skill seem to be.  Knowing how to weld your own stuff together could save someone very large amounts of money.  It seems to me that basic welding skill and papercrete go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Many electric welders are very portable these days.  It shouldn't be too difficult for someone to bring their welder along and help people find out what it's all about.  Maybe we can even have those that want a hands-on lesson give it a try while being supervised by someone experienced.  Wouldn't that be great?  If you would like to learn about welding at the gathering, please post a reply and let everyone know.

Any volunteers?  Who has already registered, or is thinking about coming that would be willing to load their welder in their vehicle and bring it along?

Another idea for the gathering:

Mixer Construction

Who would like to attend the papercrete gathering, and leave with a fully assembled papercrete mixer?

Who that is registered to attend, or thinking about attending, would be willing to pay for the parts?   Fair is fair, whoever buys the parts, will get to take the fully assembled papercrete mixer home with them.  (You will also need to supply the vehicle and the trailer hitch to pull it home.)

The mixer construction would be a group activity with everyone getting the chance to learn and help build the mixer.  This activity could easily be combined with introductory welding.   Of course, the experienced welders would inspect all the welds to make sure they are strong enough.  If you are interested in learning how to build a mixer and helping build a mixer at the gathering, please post a reply and let everyone know.

I've heard of some people paying several hundred dollars to have a mixer assembled.  PLUS PARTS!  This would be a great way for someone to get a nice mixer very inexpensively.

Any volunteers to buy the parts?

Any volunteers to be Captain of the mixer construction team?

The more more people contribute of their knowledge and skills, the better the Papercrete Group gathering will be.

I'm getting pumped up just thinking about how much we all might learn and how much fun we all could have.

Don't hesitate to volunteer to help others learn about something you do well.    Email Ev at evelynanne8@gmail.com
