Has anyone grouted CMU with papercrete to create a insulated cinder
block wall? What are the pros and cons of this approach? I think that
this would be a great way to build a strong insulated wall that could
be verneered with stone.
HI I have not..but I do know that all PC tends to dry and pull away and will shrink 10-20% as it is drying, so you will have a gap all over in all spaces of the block.
that said you can come back and pour again, but it adds to the work. and time to keep filling in the spaces left. this is a case where a high cement/ low paper mortar may work better and shrink less. I hope others have an answer here, it would be a blessing to have a low cost thick mortar of PC to cover and give some insulation value.
also the PC mortar will squish out between layers of blocks, and stay wet inside the CMU longer than if exposed to some air drying... you may not get the bond you need as mortar SHOULD be giving on a block wall
if the CMUs can get wet they will keep the PC wet too, so a foundation that does not allow moisture to pass upward is critical.
