RE: [papercreters] Papercrete & rocks

If you laid down a layer of rocks and poured papercrete over them the rocks would not soak up any heat from the sun because they would be insulated from it. If you poured a layer of papercrete and put rocks on top of it and the sun hit the rocks they would warm up and stay warm because the papercrete was insulating them. is this what you were asking?

I appreciate the simplicity of papercrete and am happy with it as it is, paper and cement. I also add pumice fines for several reasons. The mineral content is increased thereby aiding fire retardance and making it undesirable as a food source (except for chickens!). It also seems to increase the volume. If I had something around that I wanted to get rid of I would probably experiment by adding it to the mix. I may do that with all these polypropylene bags I have but I don't see the point in scrounging up things that I can throw into the mixer. That said I will add that if anyone finds something that works well they should share it with the group. This is why we are here, to learn from each other.

Subject: [papercreters] Papercrete & rocks

Just looking at thoughts put forward by Steve with his gypsum and rocks.
Has anyone tried pouring papercrete over pre-packed rocks? Does this give
a higher compression strength and does it give a greater thermal mass
combined with the insulation of papercrete, therfore creating a longer
heat/cold storage time and slower thermal release?

All constructive feedback is always appreciated
Wayne
