THE PRODUCT |
The basic idea behind the development of THURA-PANEL Building Systems was to modify the central properties of ordinary concrete, the world's dominant building material, to create a product more suitable for low-rise construction. The primary properties to be modified are the unnecessary high density, massive strength and thermal conductivity of hardened concrete. However, the inherent concrete qualities of weather resistance, regardless of the modifications remain. THURA-PANEL Building Systems meets all structural requirements for low-rise construction, maintains the essential qualities of concrete, and adds construction workability. Using conventional building equipment and techniques, THURA-PANEL Building Systems can easily be installed by sawing, nailing, drilling, screwing, and bolting, simulating three conditions of wood and drywall construction. Modifications are made in the composition of concrete by varying the proportions of cement, sand and fibers. THURA-PANEL Building Systems, the "Natural Fiber" concrete, is a proportionate mixture of the constituents of concrete. These are several possibilities for variation in the choice of constituents. This enables the effective use of local materials, the variation of material properties and economical optimization of the end product. The cement can be Portland I or II. The hardening classes of cement can vary depending on the predetermined production time allocations. Substitutes such as fly ash can be used to increase the cement content. These substitutions for cement can improve the compaction and pumping properties of the concrete, and elicit materials economies. The fiber content of THURA-PANEL Building Systems can be chosen from a large variety of natural fibers, rice husks, bamboo fibers, sisal fibers, coconut fibers, hemp, and jute fibers. The maximum percent by volume used is 17%. Admixtures can be used to eliminate the retarding effects of some natural fibers through a pretreatment process. In addition, some accelerators and plasticizers may be used. The aggregate compound in THURA-PANEL Building Systems is ordinary concrete sand. Lightweight aggregates, such as expanded clay, pumice, or volcanic ash can be used. The result is a greater insulation value. The final ingredient is water, which can be any water suitable for ordinary concrete. The proportioning mixture of constituents is the proprietary essence of the THURA-PANEL Building Systems product. The mix design is primarily dedicated to fulfill the destiny and strength requirements of the end product. There is a great flexibility in choice due to the variety of raw materials and mix variations, allowing for management discretion based on material availability and cost. |
THE PRODUCT |
This lightweight aggregate/polystyrene and cement product can be used for a wide range of residential, commercial and institutional construction from one to ten stories high. THURA-BLOCK measures up to 6 ft. long up to 15" high and up to 16 inches wide. The weight per cubic foot of the THURA-BLOCK is 9 to 14 LBS. You choose the density and insulation value. Each block is formed with 4 to 8 inch vertical and 4 to 8 inch horizontal cores. After dry stacking, no masonry is required. A #4 or #5 rebar is placed vertically and horizontally through each block cores. Concrete, 3000 psi. is pumped filling the core. The result is a steel reinforced bearing wall, capable of a Seismic 4 certification per Code 2003 specifications. Vertical and horizontal cores and rebar size will vary depending on State domestic / Iinternational structural requirements. |
