Re: [papercreters] Gypsum

My plans changed about leaving California. I am inches away from buying 2.5 acres about an hour from here in Carrizo Plain which is mostly open wilderness land (called California's Serengeti)).

Anyway, there is a huge gypsum deposit in the valley, actually only a couple miles away from the land I'm hoping to buy (in days from now).

Considering the ease of availability, what other uses are there for gypsum besides ammending papercrete for sticking to wood, or for making plaster wall exteriors?

:)

I read somewhere a long time ago the if you add gypsum to your mix it will stick to wood. I'm getting ready to fill in around my vigas and bought some dry joint compound mix but do not know how much to add. I will experiment but was just wondering if anyone has experience with this.
