I agree with Smitty's thinking also. Concrete as I know it (with Portland cement) was invented in the 1820s. Up to that time they made a concrete with magnesium oxide or phosphates. This concrete was much stronger then the present stuff and even stuck well to wood and steel. It's still available today but runs about $30 a bag instead of the $5 for Portland cement. You can find it as a concrete floor leveler compound or quick drying patcher. Try www.ceratechinc.com
