SAID: Many PCers live off grid so big electric powered machines are
usually not an option. And one last thought, big expensive machines
that require gas and diesel to operate are not very green which is one
of the things that I find attractive about the low tech approach to
papercrete.

Yes this is why I love sawdust and wood chips most of the USA has
scrap wood trees, shrubs, and wood mills doing work. Even in desert
towns there must be a mill or a sawdust producing business of some
sort? those who prepare chopped wood for fireplace and stove burning
must have sawdust.. I am guessing some industrious person can get all
the waste and build a home with it.
with these already chopped materials you can easily make a wall, one
bucket mix at a time if needed.
I am usually working alone, so being able to made a tubful of
woodcrete, or sawdust clay-crete means NO $$ custom made
chopper/Mixer, and if you DO have electricity-- I can use a paint
stem drill mixer, OR my trusty wringer washer that gently mixes it
all at low noise ( very comforting actually-- the chugging sound
brings many memories of my mom doing laundry, and me helping, and the
scarey dangerous wringer that 'ate' kid's fingers.
Using a bigger tub with a tight lid you can add a baffle inside, and
roll on the ground, like those little one bag cement mixers they sell
for $35.- the inside has two curved parts, like fins. but with a
rubber drum, or metal drum just attach two 2 x 4 scraps, and the wet
mix hits that when tumbling and helps mix it.
I even used one strip of those roller bars from a factory assembly
line.. where the products travel on rolling bars long distances to
get to the end of the production line.
when you use JUST clay- lime and sawdust- or paper- in a wringer
washer, it can sit there covered, for days and still is ready to use-
if a bit dry- add clean water, mix again, and ready to use..
if you dump a bucketful onto an old screen and let it drain a bit you
have a cool "sculptable" mix to make details for the walls. or animals
shapes, or pottery for the garden, or anything you can imagine.
