RE: [papercreters] Re: Regarding Forums and Papercrete Building Code

This may not be much help but I've made walls of papercrete and earthbags and if I were going to do an ouside wall, a short lone like for a garden, I'd go with the earthbags. It takes time to make and cure papercrete blocks and they need to be kept well off the ground in the final product. My second choice would be papercrete though. I have a 200 gal mixer and am terrible with math so can't help you with the recipe. My style is to just get started with something and modify it from there. I think I got my original recipe from the Solberg's papercrete book. I don't have it here with me now so can't give the correct name. I made a batch then changed the recipe until I had one that worked for me. Good luck. Judith

Subject: [papercreters] Re: Regarding Forums and Papercrete Building Code

Hear, hear!  I'm also a fan of the forum option, mainly because discussions can be delegated into separate topics.  "Recipes" would be something I could use right now.

The database listed in our files for recipes --

-- doesn't have the recipe I need for mixing up a 5-gallon batch for wall blocks for my climate.  Should I add sand?  Lime?

Y'all say to experiment, and I will, but honestly, I don't know what I'm looking for.  I don't even know what I'm doing.  This is all new to me.  I don't need it to be strong, necessarily, just reliable/durable enough to build an outside decorative nonload-bearing wall.

With a forum, I could go to the "Experiments" section and find somebody somewhere who has built blocks for an outside wall, including what worked and what didn't.  I could also add my experience to the forum someday.

Just my $.02.
