Kim -- If you go to the big mall-store chain stores and talk to the managers, some will be willing to save window-display vinyls for you. These are UV-resistant, heavy, and often are 6'x8' or larger.
I have found that the local JC Penney -- which has no display windows -- still receives those huge vinyl rolls from the national marketing department each season and they go straight to the trash. The trick is catching them when they do, or getting the manager to remember to set them aside for you.
