The only difference that I have noticed is in the speed at which it breaks down heavier fibers such as cardboard. I tend to be in a hurry and don't usually pre-soak my stock. Jerry

The mower blade in my no-tow mixer was sharpened in 2001. You want the fibers separated but not necessarily cut shorter. I don't remember any difference with a sharp blade, but I never looked with a magnifying glass. It all seems to stick together. spaceman JUDITH WILLIAMS wrote: Just a quick question, something fundamental that I should already know.
How important is it to keep the mixer blade sharp? I know some use a metal fence stake and in that case I guess it isn't very sharp. It just mushes the paper up but doesn't necessarily cut it. Am I right?
