I was asked about doing a papercrete and cordwood wall offlist. it
has been while since this has been talked about.
Paul Reavis a WI builder has built one barn, and a shed I think,
before he ever heard of PC as we know it, 10 years ago. his barn is
gorgeous looking, and he used a basic PC mix as the mortar with the
stack wall he built. he was interviewed in Godron Solberg's book
"Building with Papercrete...", but you can also see lots more on the
www.daycreek.com list. AND photos in color too-- just wonderful,
The cordwood people have called their mix by a new name-- to
differentiate it i guess from the PC world. they call it PEM paper
enhanced mortar and Rob Roy wrote about it in his newer book Art of
Cordwood masonry-
I am not promoting either book- you can get them anywhere-- but it is
a great idea by combining two good building materials. Rob Roy
does use a heavy sawdust and cement mix as his mortar, and I love
sawdust and use it in all my clay-lime mixes for blocks and plasters--
so both paper and sawdust can make a wonderful mix.
