I feel that a very strong deterrent is a dog. In the area I live in, a lot of people live here six or eight months of the year and go elsewhere during the summer months. Three of my neighbors that are 1/2 to 3/4 mile away got broken into. They all had metal buildings. The two neighbors that live next to me were not broken into, IMHO, because I had a very territorial dog, a collie Australian shepard mix. People believe that the metal structures are safe places to store things but any half way competent burglar can rip off a dead bolt or cut off a padlock. The metal in the buildings themselves is not thick enough to be a deterrent as well. A cutting torch will cut through a metal door or a steel shipping container. The local police did come right out after I called them but there was not much they could do I suppose. One neighbor lost a 4 wheeler and tools and another lost two 4 wheelers and some tools and the third lost a lot of tools. The deputy said that 4 wheelers are easy to get rid of in Mexico or even locally as many people don't license them. There isn't any easy solution and as I stated in an earlier post I store things in a trailer if I have to be gone even for a week. I still feel a dog is as good a deterrent as there is, and it doesn't have to be a vicious guard dog type, just a fairly large dog that makes a lot of noise. --- On Fri, 11/9/12, JayH <slurryguy@yahoo.com> wrote:
