Re: [papercreters] Re: Slip form Papercete

Hello Judith:)
Hope all is going well for you in the New year.

Thanks so much for your response.
As I said I am a novice in the papercrete world.

Our soil is 100% clay. We have an existing modular home. We are planning a new skin & a small addition in two areas with a new truss roof over all. I am thinking for the existing exterior walls that will remain exterior walls I can use paper adobe that I would pour with a slip form (outside form only) 10" wide. My goal is to bond the paper adobe to the existing metal panel. For the new free standing walls a 14" wall that would be formed both sides.

I am thinking I can pour a 1'-0" lift on 50% of the walls one day and the balance the next. Then fall back, strip & raise the form, pour second lift on over 1st section. I am looking for a high R value (at least 2 per inch) load bearing wall that will take wind load and support new roof trusses.

Questions:
1) Is this approach structurally sound?
2) What would be the mix proportions
3) Will the mix dry to meet the suggested schedule ( raise and pour every other day?
4) How would I address fire and insect issues, termites, ants etc?
5) For a 12" high 2x12 form how close would it need to be braced?
6) Would some other type form be better suited to the task?
7) Can I use a paper adobe 1 1/2" thick plaster with a lime- gyp plaster finish coat over wood lath for interior finish over existing stud walls?
8) For the interior plaster I am looking for thermal mass. Can the mix be adjusted to reduce insulation and increase thermal mass?

I am also Planning an underground cistern
Because of our highly expansive clay soil foundation needs to be down to 4'-0" below grade. I was thinking the 12 think papercrete with the latex paint for that portion. How did that work for you?

For the roof I am thinking papercrete dome in cantnary shape 6" thick pour over 2 layers of off set chicken wire. Plastered with papercrete on the underside. Roof would not have interior support. Chicken wire would be supported until papercretes sets and cures

For the excavated clay sides I am thinking lime plaster that would continuue up and over the papercrete walls. I am not sure how I would treat the joint where the papercrete sits on the clay ledge?

Any input you can provide is most appreciated

Thanks and best wishes

I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have Murry. I made a lot of mistakes and learned some important lessons. If you can get ahold of Clyde or Tom Curry they may be of some help.

Greetings :)
My name is Murry Holley. I am new to the group and to papercrete. In fact this is my first ever on line group of any kind.

While new to papercrete I am not new to construction. I started full time in construction in 1965 and have been going ever since. I became interested in solar energy and buildings in 1979 and in about 2000  I began to think very seriously about sustainable living. My wife and I bought some property just outside San Marcos, TX with a mobile home.

Our plan is for a slight enlargement with a new exterior load bearing wall around the entire perimeter. I have considered many options but it appears that papercrete my offer he best trade offs of the good, the bad and the ugly.

For my situation slip forming seems to be a good choice. While I know a lot about forming concrete I know nothing about forming papercrete.

I saw a message from Judith Williams from 2010  where she was constructing a slip form project. I would appreciate any information I can get concerning ALL of the technical aspects of making this happen.

Thanks and best wishes
Murry Holley
