INTERNAL thermal mass is VERY important. I did say "where the thermal mass is placed". In fact, it is KEY. MD has a dome in AK as reference.

I also suggest that thermal mass becomes less important in an arctic
climate because storing solar energy from the day and releasing it at
night isn't practical when the sun barely comes up during the winter.
Thermal mass is still a factor, though.
