If you want good adobe, rule number one, leave the cement out.  They don't mix.  Cement holds water, not what you want.  I did fidobe with 50/50 clay and Texas heavy clay that withstood a full mud pit season, no protection and only shrank by 25%.  The sample that was painted was perfect at the end of the year.  My measurement are by weight, not volume. However, you have to dig quite the hole to build a house. 

Ask the cob people about cement and clay building, they know.
