Re: [papercreters] More Gathering Pictures

When I unbolted the lid (bottom) of the differential, emulsified oil and water came out, greenish white like green goddess salad dressing. The machined parts were rust free and there was a light coat of rust on the cast iron parts. We wiped it down and got most of the water emulsion out, while realizing that the leaky seal will be letting water back in. We topped it off with new clean 80/90 oil, as much as it would hold. Since it worked fine for three years, Judith should get many more years of service from it.

I agree with Judith that an elephant trunk valve would work great for blocks or dumping straight into slip forms. I use a gate valve on a drum for spray washer mixing, and my tow mixer started out with a toilet float in a 4" pvc fitting. Now that it is stationary it is piped straight into a pump and has a manufactured ball valve to seal it. The elephant trunk is probably easier to use than any of these, and would give good flow control. The gate valve involves use of a hammer, the soccer ball is either open or closed and hard to recap.
