If you are interested in shredding the newspaper, I found that sandwiching it between a couple sheets of office paper let the shredder handle it with ease. Also, Pam vegetable oil spray (or the generic equivalent) works wonders to keep the shredder lubricated, just spray and run a sheet every 50-100 uses or when it seems to be slowing down.
